A couple of weeks ago at community group we were discussing the last 6 chapters of John. Something really struck me as I re-read the passages. I, like the typical church-raised, bible-bred, Christ follower have known the story of “doubting” Thomas for as long as I can remember. This time there was a fresh truth to his story as I attempted to wrap my heart around the response of Jesus to his questions.
It occurred to me in a way I haven’t felt before that Jesus never had to prove anything to Thomas. Thomas’ closest friends, the other disciples, has just witnessed the physical presence of Jesus after he resurrected from the dead. They gave first hand account of seeing him alive with nail scarred and sword pierced markings. Yet, Thomas doubts. Even with Jesus standing in front of him… Thomas doubts. This isn’t what blows my mind though. The crazy thing is that Jesus proves himself to Thomas by having him touch the scars on his body and tells Thomas to stop being faithless and just believe.
It makes me stop and think. I think about someone like me. I, like Thomas, grew up with a knowledge of Jesus but yet I doubt more than I care to admit. I doubt his love, I doubt his ability to make things make sense in my life. He still reveals himself to me after all the doubt though. He knows exactly when I need a sign and when I’m just being stubborn. He proves himself over and over and over again. He performed signs and miracles and had them documented so that I may believe.
Then I think about someone with a different background than myself. I think about someone who grows up with zero knowledge of Jesus or someone who chooses not to believe in God. There are times when I feel like there is no way God could reveal himself to them because they have no “biblical” knowledge of the things he has done.
God is so much bigger than that though. He is so much bigger than knowledge. He can infiltrate the life of the “churched” just as much as he can the agnostic, atheist, or apathetic. I have witnessed those with little to no knowledge recently give their lives to Christ with such unbridled passion. They never asked to see the nails scars or the pierced side. God just nudged them and their lives have changed. It has renewed my own faith in Christ and made me truly believe that God can do a work in ANY life. I said I believed it before but now I really do. I am so grateful for the movement.

These are photos I got today from the look book I did makeup for the weekend before the show I did this week. Wow… run on sentence! These are the “tame” looks from the book… runway was the goth look I posted before. The hair and clothing was frickin’ amazing!

I’ll post some other things later but I’ve been working on this stuff a lot lately so it has somewhat consumed me.

Tonight was really slow at work so I created the look for the fashion show I’m doing Thursday night. The stylist wanted a somewhat gothic look. The direction she gave was a lot of black, smoky shadow all the way around the eye almost to the brow, strong brows, little to no cheek and black lips. I did half of my face in about five minutes… my other half is covered because I only did one eye. Then a customer walked up at about 10 minutes until 9! I explained why I looked the way I did and they laughed. It figures!
